Group PT

Up early this morning for another gym session.  We’d booked in for the 5.30am group PT hoping that this week someone would come…and yay they did! (about 5 mins late though) It was a great session on the synergy 360 so we did a number of things like squats, weights, pull ups, prone hold etc etc.  It was pretty tough! My abs are starting to get sore already and think I’ll be feeling it tomorrow!  After 25mins and 37 secs I burned 221 cals.  Not too bad!  Will be going to zumba tonight.

Keeping it up.

Heading into week 2 of the gym membership and now I think it's going to get harder to keep up the motivation.

Last Thursday prior to attending ignition, I just did 30 minutes on the treadmill...which involved about 10 minutes of running! It actually wasn't too hard.  Not sure how many calories I burned as I kept my watch going while we did the Ignition.

Ignition is basically a trainer just showing you how to use the equipment.  So after 1 hour and 11 minutes, I burned 650 calories!

I then had 2 days off...which was well needed as I was sore everywhere! Friday was our Christmas party which was bigger than planned and I ended up with a hangover yesterday...not good when you go to a meditation course!  Anyway, after a lovely lunch and a catch up with my family last night I was back at the gym today.

Today I did all cardio, 30 minutes on the treadmill, 20 minutes on the stepper and 10 minutes on the cross-trainer and burned 651 calories.  The 30 minutes on the treadmill was week 6 of the couch to 5 k which I've been meaning to do so thought I should start around the week I think I can handle.

Really need to start doing weights, but it's a bit hard without any guidance.  Hopefully the PT will show up tomorrow morning for the group PT.  Then I hopefully won't feel so lost!

Gym

Have signed back up at a gym even though I vowed I never would again. Joined Go Health after hearing about it from my friend Sandi.

Went with anther friend Marnie and we both ended up signing up for 3 months plus 8 sessions of PT.

We went Monday morning bright and early (5.30am argh!!) all ready for a PT session...but they didn't show! :| Not a good sign.  So we just went on the treadmill.  I was pretty impressed as you can pick from all sorts of programs and it has an inbuilt tv.  So after 35 minutes and 12 seconds I burned 243 calories.  Did a program where I walked at 6.2km/h and the treadmill changed its incline.

As I still have classes valid at Mad Dance House I ended up going on Monday night to Zumba.  It's still enjoyable but even after not going for about 8 weeks I still remembered all the steps! After 45 minutes I burned 331 calories.

So Monday was a success exercise wise.

Tuesday morning comes and again we decide to go to a 5.30am class...this time body attack.  Thank god this was only a 30 minute class as we had no idea what to expect.  It was a high intensity, high impact (think those are the right terms) class where my heart rate was 170-180 bpm!!! FAR OUT! So good though.  After 29 minutes and 6 seconds I burned 317 calories!

Today, Wednesday...I've had a 36 hour break and it felt like every muscle in my body was aching.  But I had booked in for an Ignition class (where they show you how to use the machines) and I also had it in my mind to do another class.  Ignition didn't happen because of a double booking (wtf?) so met up with Marnie after her 5pm class and did some machines instead.  (I also think it was wishful thinking if I was going to do another class!) Did 20 minutes cross trainer, 10 minutes bike and 20 minutes treadmill.  The cross trainer alternated difficulty, bike was just difficult full stop (legs were so sore by this stage) and treadmill was a similar program to Monday.  Kept my HRM going the whole time and after 55 minutes and 20 seconds I burned a whopping 521 calories!

Now I am so sore. Ideally I'd like to have the next 2-3days off but we're booked in for Ignition tomorrow night.

So far the gym isn't too bad. Organisation wise so far isn't great as the group pt and the ignition haven't happened, but it's only week 1.  At this stage, all I can say is I'm glad I've only signed up for 3 months!

Hanson and ZWOW #13

Hi! Long time no update.

September has been a crazy month and I haven't been able to exercise as much as I would like.  I was back at Mad Dance House just doing zumba and pilates. Haven't done tramp for ages as I've had other stuff on. The last 2 weeks have been really crazy as I was busy going to 5 Hanson concerts!

They were so amazing. Went to 3 shows in QLD and the 2 Sydney shows. Also went to a MOE (Members Only Event), got my Shout It Out album sleeve signed and saw my friend Di in the process. Can't wait to get the picture from the MOE as I was standing in between Isaac and Taylor. Also while getting my cd signed managed to say a whole sentence to Isaac "It was great to finally hear you sing a solo" and he laughed. Only managed to say thanks to the other two and at the MOE I was speechless...except for when I thought I banged Zac's hand on the barrier (and didn't) and said sorry.

Anyway, now it's back to the daily grind.  Thought I'd give a ZWOW a crack today.  Boy it was hard!!  Did number 13 which was tabata style for each exercise there was 8 rounds of 20 seconds work and 10 seconds rest so a total of 4 mins per exercise.

The exercises were:

  • ALT leg balance burn
  • bunny hop
  • weighted leg raise
  • broad jump death burpee
Modifcations:

Don't think I did the bunny hops as well as Zuzana and the weighted leg raises weren't weighted...it actually took a while to figure out exactly what they were.  Also didn't do push ups with the burpees.

Total reps for each exercise:
  • ALT leg balance burn - 43 standing on the right leg, 45 on the left leg
  • bunny hop - 151
  • weighted leg raise - 46
  • broad jump death burpee - 29
Not too bad considering I haven't done too much for ages.  In 16 minutes I burned 100 calories and after a cool down (20 mins) it was 122 calories.

Determined to get back into it now!

Another Update

I haven't written in a while but that's mainly because I haven't done any ZWOWs so there's not much point to just record calories burned in the classes I'm going to.

Still attending classes. Back to zumba and tramp.  But as of this week no more boxing :( There's pilates in its place though.

Haven't been exercising as vigorously this month but it's the last day of August and I think I'll start ZWOWs again in September...tomorrow!

Here are the stats from my last few classes.

22/8 - I did boxing...but it wasn't a proper boxing as they threw in pilates as well.  Burned 253 cals in 41.59 mins
23/8 - Tramp/cardio - only did 30.13mins as we had to move the tramps from the old studio to the new one but I burned 246 calories.
27/8 - back to zumba and burned 251 cals in 49.21mins
29/8 - pilates for 42.20 and burned....nothing. It didn't record! Damn. But don't think there's any point in doing it for pilates anyway.

Also it's just over 4 weeks since my last check in so thought I better do one.

On July 29 I was:
Chest: 81.3cm
Waist: 68.5cm
Hips: 85.5cm
Thigh: 54cm
Weight: 57.5kg (approx - don't have digital scales)


Today I'm:
Chest: 81cm
Waist: 68.5cm
Hips: 85.2cm

This is great! For someone that wasn't exercising as intensely this month I've been able to maintain it all.  Eating has been quite terrible too.

Update

So haven't done any ZWOWs again this week, just been doing my normal classes. Only two this week both tramp classes due to a public holiday on Wednesday.

On Monday in 45.14 minutes I burned 301 calories and Thursday in 43.11 minutes I burned 293 calories.

Also just did a prone hold for 1 min 3 secs 5 milliseconds. I think a little longer than last time...yay! Getting there slowly.

It's kinda nice to have a break but feel like I'm slacking off a bit. Just have to get the motivation to do some more.

Oopsie!

So I haven't written in this for a week now.  Possibly because I haven't done any ZWOWs nor have I been recording my calories correctly.

I had a break over the weekend and didn't do any exercise! It is nice to scale it back a little.  This week I have just been going to classes.  On Monday I decided to the tramp class where in 39.44 mins I burned 231 calories.  Have decided to alternate between zumba and tramp...even though I do like tramp class more now.

Although I wore my HRM at boxing class last night I forgot to start it!  It was a bloody hard work out. I was a bit worried because at first I was paired with Katie (the PT) and when you're with her you don't have a break, but luckily someone arrived later than me so I could be paired with them. My inner thighs were so sore today prob due to the jump lunges we did and the squats we held.  It was weird though as when class finished I got cramps in my thighs...maybe because I didn't stretch enough after.

Tonight was tramp class #2 for the week.  Getting better at some of the core stuff, slowly getting stronger. In 45.37mins I burned 306 calories.  We did more cardio tonight, but with the pilates section I struggled because of the sore thighs...and now I'm worse! But it's a good sore.

Might get back into the ZWOWs on the weekend. Was a bit hard core about it in July, but now that I'm a lot fitter I'd like to try and maintain now rather than lose cms...and if I do great and if not, no problems.

Forgetful

Oops forgot to write after boxing last night...but not much point when the HRM didn't work properly!  It was pretty hardcore (as usual) but finding that my recovery is a lot quicker and I'm trying to push myself harder.

Muscles were sore tonight doing the tramp/cardio etc.  Didn't wear the HRM again...as I now can't find my watch...oopsie!  It's somewhere around here.  It was great though, as my ass is so sore from the pilates and I think I'll be in pain tomorrow.

Feeling great, people keep commenting which I'm not used to but it's nice people notice.  A lady thought I'd lost 10kg (!!) wtf? Told her that it was only 3kg lol.  It's not losing weight it's called losing cm!!  It's amazing, just losing a few cms and I have dropped a dress size.

Occasionally I feel like I'm a little obsessive over it...perhaps because I'm trying to record everything but then on the other hand I'm not...because I still eat crap! (Like today - 2 little lamingtons, biscuit with cream, coffee and fizzy guava drink).  It's a bit of a weird feeling.

I guess the weird thing is that I reached my goal weight and it was kinda like now what?  I think the hardest part now is maintaining it and trying to tone up a little.  Need to push myself harder as I need to develop core strength and arm strength.

Anyway, enough babbling bullshit time for my yummy dinner...spinach pie!

ZWOW #12

So here we are again, with sweat dripping...again.

These ZWOWs really kick ass.  Although probably doesn't help that I have the heater on too.

Anyway, today was ZWOW #12 which was a 10 minute AMRAP. (as many rounds as possible)

  • 10 x pistols
  • 20 x low jumping jacks
  • 10 x dynamic burpees
  • 20 x low jumping jacks
Modifications:

Obviously can't get that low on the pistols, but think I was better than when I first started.  Could get about half way, holding on to my wardrobe. Still not doing pushups in the burpees so I guess that's ok.

In 10 minutes I completed 3 rounds + 10 pistols, 20 jumping jacks and 3 burpees.  Not bad when I forgot the jumping jacks in the 3rd round and had to do 40 altogether!

Think my ass is going to be really sore tomorrow!

Zumba (again)

Ok my ass and tops of my legs got really sore today. Guess that ZWOW yesterday worked better than I thought!

So I picked zumba tonight as I thought it would be good for my sore muscles. Boy was I wrong! We did so many squats tonight that I'll still be in pain tomorrow!

In 44.43 mins I burned 249 calories.  Not as good as in the past but better than nothing!

Check in

So it's been about 4 weeks since the last check in so it's time to check in again.


On June 30 I was:

Today I'm:

Must say the thigh is the dodgiest area to measure as I must measure in a different spot every time.


Even though I've put on a little weight, that could be attributed to the past few days of over indulgence but I'm not really worried about weight anymore. 


Not liking the chest measurement though :( What can ya do? Get a boob job I guess?


Overall it's been great! Just goes to show that a little hard work can make changes in a short time.

ZWOW #11

These short workouts really kick your butt.

Today I did ZWOW #11 boy was it hard. Maybe because the past few days have felt like a failure food wise. Don't get me wrong, all the food I ate was absolutely delicious, but I didn't know when to stop!

But anyway it was an AMRAP for 10 minutes.

  • 10 x mule kicks
  • 10 x sumo push ups
  • 20 x side jump lunge
Modifications:

The mule kicks...well let me just say there's no way I could get as high as Zuzana. At least I had a go...push ups were on my knees and no modifications for the side jump lunge.

In 10 minutes I completed 4 rounds plus 7 mule kicks.  It was the mule kicks that I found the hardest and that's what slowed me right down.  But can only get better right?

In saying that I'm sweating a lot and in the 10 minutes I burned 85 calories. After a bit of a warm down it was 100 calories.

Feel like I've lost motivation in the exercise a bit, maybe because I've reached my goal weight so to speak and now it's kinda like what is my goal now?  However I think it would have to be to try and increase upper body and core strength and that's going to take some time.  Maybe I'm too hard on myself, especially food wise.  Just gotta be positive about what I have achieved and use that as strength to keep going.

Anyway enough babble, better get some breakkie!

Nice day out and new clothes!!

Went for run this morning with Lauren and Marnie. It was shorter than last week at 52.33 minutes burning 340 calories.  We ran from Manly to Wynnum Creek and back. Not too bad!  According to mapmyrun.com it was about 5.37 km.


Met up with Sandi today which was great! Totally overindulged (in a good way) in Max Brenner and Pimms! YUM! Before meeting up with her I had a look in Review. LOVE those clothes. Ended up buying a few things...2 dresses, skirt and top. To my surprise, the dresses and top were size 8!!! WTF! I cannot remember the last time I fit into an 8...it must be at least 10 years ago. Everything was discounted in some way which was fabulous.

Boxing!

Tonight was boxing. In 45 mins I burned 373 calories. It didn't seem like that hard a session.  Maybe I wasn't pushing hard? I don't know. Struggle with sit ups and any strength exercises though. Need to concentrate on more of those sorts of exercises.

ZWOW #10

Can you believe it? ZWOW #10 already.

Seeing as I didn't do 3 ZWOWs last week I thought I better at least do 3 this week. Tuesday's are normally a rest day but managed to get up and do this AMRAP.

So today:

  • 100 x skipping rope/high knees
  • 20 x reptile burpees
  • 20 x kettle bell jumps
No modifications unless you call doing high knees without a skipping rope a modification?

Anyway managed to complete 2 rounds and 79 high knees.  I always find the burpees the hardest and they always slow me down.  Hopefully after some time I'll be able to improve this score.  Only burned 92 calories but after a stretch it was 113.

So I can't do the trampoline class on Thursday so did it tonight instead of Zumba.

In 44.29 minutes I burned 291 calories. Pretty good I'd say!

A little sore, but feeling great. Set alarm to get up and do the next ZWOW.

ZWOW #9

Almost didn't do this ZWOW!  But at the last minute realised it was an AMRAP so did it.

Up to ZWOW #9 already.

  • 10 x santana push ups
  • 10 x 3 pike plyo tuck
  • 30 x crab toe touches
  • 20 x low jacks
Modifications.

As usual push ups were on my knees.

This one I completed 2 rounds + 10 santana push ups, 10 x 3 pike plyo tucks and 13 crab touches.  Not too bad. Could have probably pushed harder but my excuse is I didn't get enough sleep! At least I did it though.

In the 10 minutes I burned 92 calories but including the warm down it was 116 calories.

ZWOW #8

First ZWOW in a week! Boy it was tough.

This week was ZWOW #8 which was 6 rounds as fast as possible of:

  • 10 x forward/backward squat jump
  • 10 x dragon lunge back
  • 10 x toe touch jump up
  • 10 x side plank leg lift on each side
Modifications:

The only modification used was on the side plank leg lift. After the first round I did it on my elbow.  Also used my 8 kg kettle bell for the dragon lunge back.

Not sure how many calories I burned during the work out as I forgot to record it! My total time for this one was16.58.

Round 1: 2.32
Round 2: 2.28
Round 3: 2.31
Round 4: 2.38
Round 5: 3.14
Round 6: 2.52

After warm down I burned 185 calories.

Not bad!

Run with Marns

Awesome run today with Marnie at Kangaroo Point/Southbank/Botanic Gardens.  Approximately 7.5k in 1.18.41 burning 616 calories! Feel amazing.

We alternated between walking and running.  Absolutely exhausted, ended up having a nap!

Ok this has to be my second favourite class. It's slowly getting easier.  In 44.16 mins I burned 319 calories. So good when we do a mix of cardio and strength.

Boxing

Boxing was tonight and I started my watch a little early so the time prob isn't quite accurate but in 48.50 minutes I burned 467 calories. Woot!

The workouts seem to be getting harder but I'm also coping better. Think this is a good sign!

For the first time in a while I didn't have a coffee or a coke today. Yay! Slowly getting there. Think it's baby steps with this aspect.

Zumba

Oops forgot to post after going to zumba last night.

In 45 mins I burned 246 calories. Not a bad effort.

Didn't do a ZWOW yesterday, figure my muscles need a chance to recover.  Probably should have done one today but think I'll do it Friday morning instead.  Body hasn't had a break since last Tuesday! Feel guilty...but really shouldn't as I'm doing quite well exercise wise.

Food...is another story.  Really need to lift my game on this! My willpower is zilch. For example, went to Pancake Manor yesterday for lunch with others from work and had crepe with chicken and creamy sauce and pancake with maple syrup and ice cream! Add a coke to that and boom! Oopsie daisy!

Need to stop drinking coke again. Have had one every day since Friday. Not cool.

ZWOW #7

Good morning! What a way to start the day with ZWOW #7.

This one was 3 rounds as fast as possible.

  • 10 x jump lunge side kicks
  • 10 x supergirl pushups
  • 2 mins skipping rope
  • 10 x love bends with kettle bell on each side.
Modifications.

Pushups were done on my knees and I don't use a skipping rope so did a combination of high knees and butt kicks.  Used my 8kg kettle bell for the love bends.

Round 1: 4.57
Round 2: 5.26
Round 3: 5.13

Total time of 15.39 minutes and burned 140 calories. Yay!

Because I hurt my knee, I've now been doing stretches before and after...which I know I should have been doing already...but have learnt the hard way.

Including stretches the whole workout was 20 mins and I burned 163 calories.

In other news, exciting times today as I help Marnie shop for wedding shoes! Yay!

ZWOW #6

Ok, for some reason I have a sore knee, but I think it was because I wasn't wearing shoes yesterday when I was doing the kettle bell stuff and I added high knees. Tiles and knees do not mix!

However, I have pushed on and today completed ZWOW #6.  This was a AMRAP. (As many rounds as possible in 10 mins)

  • 10 x pulse plyo jumps
  • 8 x side burpees
  • 6 x jump leg kick ups
Modifications:

Struggled with the burpees so from round 2 onwards I did normal burpees.  Probably didn't squat as low as I could have because of my knee.

In 10 minutes I completed 4 full rounds + 10 pulse plyo jumps, 8 burpees and 5 jump leg kick ups.

Damn! Almost 5 rounds! Next time :)

Meanwhile I'm still sweating like a pig.  I burned about 97 calories in this one but by the time I stretched etc it was 118 cals in 13.34 minutes.

Now I can continue with my day!

Kettlebells

Just watched the kettle bell dvd and tried their workout. Why not?

Only did 14.08 mins and only burned 68 calories but I'm sweating like a pig.  That was more strength than anything else.  Felt good!

Knee is a little sore, so not sure how I'm going to do with the ZWOW tomorrow.  Really need to stretch more I think.

Tramp

Sweated like a pig tonight. It was really worth it though! In 45.44 mins burned 320 calories.  Tramp class is so fun, with a mix of cardio and pilates. Gonna be sore tomorrow!!

Boxing

Such a tough workout tonight at boxing.  In 47.32 minutes I burned 447 calories. Sweated like a pig but felt more energetic afterwards.  A great feeling when I was so tired beforehand.

Also received my kettle bell today. Yay! Now I can get serious with some of the ZWOWs that involve kettle bell exercises.

So torn between doing a ZWOW tomorrow or having a break and not doing it till the weekend...but then it's only 10 mins. I think it'll kill my legs...oh well.

ZWOW#5

Almost didn't get up this morning, then remembered that today's ZWOW is a time challenge, as many rounds as possible in 10 minutes.

So today's workout (ZWOW#5) consisted of:

  • 10 bicep curls and shoulder press
  • 30 medicine ball mountain climbers
  • 10 sumo dead lifts
  • 5 competition burpees
No modifications were made although I don't think I put my legs out as far as I could for the mountain climbers.  Used my 2kg weights for the bicep curls and the sumo dead lifts.

Did 4 rounds though so that's pretty good and burned about 96 calories.  However by the time I warmed down it was 108 cals. Yay!

Need to invest in a kettle bell and heavier weights I think.

ZWOW #4

Didn't think I'd be that sore after yesterday's workout but I am...my butt was sore!

But woke up and did ZWOW#4.

  • 50 pendulums
  • 20 burpees
  • 15 kettlebell swings
  • 10 push up/leg twist touch
  • 5 squat with broomstick
  • 2 mins jumprope
3 rounds as fast as possible.

Modifications:
  • obviously can't do pendulums as high as the video but still did it all :)
  • burpees without the pushups
  • didn't have a kettle bell so just used my weights (4kg altogether)
  • 1st round of the push ups I did 8 of the pushups with twist then 2 regular on knees, then for the other 2 rounds I did 20 pushups on my knees
  • didn't have a skipping rope but did high knees
Times:

Round 1: 7:47
Round 2: 8:21
Round 3: 9:15

Total time was 26:45 and burned 268 calories.

Kept my HRM going while I warmed down and at the end of 31.39 mins I burned 306 calories!

Great workout today.

ZWOW #3

Had a rest day yesterday and I feel great today.

Back into it today with ZWOW #3. Which consists of:

  • split squat lunge
  • one leg lunge
  • pushups/superman
  • skaters
The way this one works is you do a pyramid style workout as fast as possible:
  1. 5 reps
  2. 10 reps
  3. 15 reps
  4. 10 reps
  5. 5 reps
I actually found it quite easy.  No modifications and I just used my 2kg weights on the one leg lunges.  I don't think I could quite do the super mans properly as my core strength is up the creek but that's ok.

Completed this in 17.33 mins and burned 167 calories.

Tramps

Tonight was the first time I did the trampoline class. So much fun but also very intense. My legs and arms were so sore from the past few days of exercise this class just topped it off! Tomorrow is definitely a rest day.  In 41.27 minutes I burned 286 calories. SUHWEET!

Starting to feel good

What an amazing workout tonight was.  Actually glad I didn't get up early for the ZWOW.

Boxing was so intense tonight, combined with a lot of cardio on mini trampolines it was so much fun! I burnt 511 cals in 49.24 mins. A record!

Looking forward to trying the trampoline class tomorrow night. Yay!

Found pilates really hard tonight because my muscles are really sore. But in 45 mins I burned 187 cals.

Won't do ZWOW tomorrow either as muscles are so sore and doing boxing tomorrow night so don't want to over do it.

Zumba and break from ZWOW

Tonight did 43.35 mins of zumba and burned 330 cals.

My muscles are so sore, feels like every one of them is aching.  I'm torn between doing ZWOW 3 tomorrow and taking a break on Wednesday or taking a break tomorrow AND Wednesday.  Leaning towards taking a break tomorrow and Wednesday as I  don't want more soreness and to injure myself in the process.

Will be doing pilates tomorrow and boxing on Wednesday so that's ok.

I know I said the other day that getting up early will be the problem...it's not...it's definitely the muscle soreness! So definitely not counting this as a failure.  As soon as muscles have recovered a bit (by Thursday I'm hoping) I'll be getting back into it.  Even if I have to do 2 days on, 2 days off or something.

ZWOD #2

Day 2 of July and time for ZWOD #2

This one consists of:
  • 5 x Manmakers
  • 20 x low burpee hops
  • 10 x twisted push ups
  • 25 x competition sit-ups
3 rounds as fast as possible.

My modifications:
  • Manmakers - used 2kg dumbbells as that's all I have and did the push up and row on my knees
  • low burpee hops - just did normal burpee without the pushup but did the low hop thingy
  • twisted push ups - did normal pushups on my knees as my back is a bit iffy and don't want to risk injuring it
  • competition sit ups - just did normal sit ups
Ok so I did modifications on all exercises but that's ok as I figure as I get fitter the less modifications I'll have to do!

Times for each round:

Round 1: 8:14
Round 2: 8:41
Round 3: 8:46

By the way my total time for this one was 25:41 and I burned 198 cals.

Now it's 6am and time to get ready for work!

July 1 part 2

Also decided today to try running again.  Managed to run from the carpark near the softball fields to the Wynnum wading pool and back in 40 mins and 30 secs burning 416 calories.

I did intervals, with 5 minute warmup followed by 8 mins running, 3 mins walking, 3 mins running, 3 mins walking, 3 mins running, 2 mins walking, 3 mins running, 3 mins walking, 3 mins running, 2 mins running, 2 mins walking...or something like that!!  I definitely started with the 5 min warmup and 8 mins running. :

Worked out on map my run that I ran 5.18km. :)

New month new challenge

So the burpee challenge was a major fail.

As it's July 1 I've given myself the challenge to do a ZWOW every day for the month.

Just completed the first one which I've done before.  It was only a month ago and already I feel I've improved in technique so we'll see how it all goes by the time I have to do it again.

The exercise consists of:

  • dive bombers x 10
  • burpees x 5
  • squat leg lift x 20/leg
  • burpees x 5
  • side plans lift x 10/side
  • burpees x 5
  • pistol squat x 10/leg
  • burpees x 5
3 rounds as fast as possible.

Upper body strength is still crap and so are legs but I've improved a little, completing it in 19mins 51 secs (last time was 23:18).  Just did normal burpees without pushups and did the dive bombers on my knees. But this time all side planks were done with the correct technique (yay!) and I attempted the pistols by using chairs as support and going as far down as I could.  Much better than before!

This time I wrote down the times for each round too:

Round 1: 6.49
Round 2: 7.22
Round 3: 5.40

Wow pretty good!  Can't believe I did the last round the quickest! Perhaps trying to get it done?

Calories for this workout were 198.  But I kept the timer going until I stopped breathing heavily (only about another 3 mins) and I burned 213 altogether.

PS. I know I go through all these little exercise crazes or things that I'd ideally like to do to (like a ZWOW a day) so even though I said up there that I'll do it for a month, the real test will be getting up early to do them before work. *fingers crossed*!!

Prone hold

Just did a prone hold...for the hell of it. :)  Added 10 seconds to my last time! Yay! 1.00.3 (that's 1 min and point 3 secs!)

back on it/into it

Went back to pilates for the first time in a couple of weeks.  Boy it was hard, but felt so good! Think I'll be paying for it tomorrow.  However my HRM kept stuffing up so it says I only worked out for 36.09 mins and burned 139 cals. Not too bad.

Boxing tomorrow night. Think I'm gonna die.

Also...kinda stopped the burpee challenge. I got sick after a weekend up the coast and still haven't recovered from my cough. Oh well. Another time.

PS. Just tried doing a prone hold on my toes...50.3 seconds. Not too bad considering that was about how good I was doing them at bootcamp.  Next time a minute!!

Ow.

Gonna be sore tomorrow.  Did pilates tonight and already in a world of pain. (btw 133 cals in 43:45).

I always find I hurt more from pilates than anything else. Don't know why?  The trainer who takes boxing also does pilates and tonight she made us do wall sits with someone sitting or standing on us. (We also do this in boxing). Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately in the long run) the lady I was teamed with was...how do I put it? A lot heavier than me and she put her full weight on!!  Somehow I survived 3 rounds of 1 minute.  Don't think I'll be able to walk tomorrow!!

Think I'll be struggling with my burpee challenge too but thank god it's only 5 and not 100!!  Just realised I should be wearing my HRM when I do the burpees too.  OOPS!

In other news, it's so nice to be appreciated at work.  Where I am now would like to keep me.  However because of the current state of the govt so many temporary employees are losing their job and unfortunately they can't really justify keeping me, when others who have been there longer are losing jobs and have nothing to go too.  So I have to go back to my substantive position. :(  Even though where I'm going back to is a toxic place to work it's permanent.  As soon as the govt opens up positions again I'm getting outta there!  I was even told I should be going for AO4s (which I'm already looking for) and AO5s!! It's nice to finally have my hard work acknowledged.

Boxercise

It was so good to get back to boxing tonight (burned 446 cals in 40:50). Struggled a bit as I haven't been for 2 weeks (had a dinner last week) and woke up with a sore throat this morning.  Not a bad effort though.

People have been asking if I've lost weight.  I've denied it saying that I've just toned up, which is true, but I weighed myself tonight and I've lost 2kg!! No idea how I've done that because I haven't done much exercise in the last week.  But I can definitely feel it and have even dropped a dress size.  Hope I can keep it up.  Must have finally pushed through the plateau period.

So far so good.

Currently on day 3 of the burpee challenge so only 3 burpees today.  So far so good. Arms were a little sore today but perhaps because I did a few the other night?  Hoping over time it’ll improve my arm strength.

As mentioned previously, was going to do the ZWOWs but so far this burpee thing works.  Prob because it doesn’t take up too much time at the moment.  Perhaps by day 10 I’ll have to concentrate on giving it more time.

Monday 4 June

So I haven't exercised for over a week, mainly due to work commitments. :(

Started back at Zumba and it was a little difficult but burned 339 calories in 42:07 minutes which is pretty good.

Found a burpee challenge which I'm considering doing - 100 day burpee challenge:

Starting on day 1, do one Burpee. Day 2, do 2 Burpees and so on. Do that for 100 days in a row. If you miss a day you need to make them up. So if you miss day 31, on day 32 you need to do 31 Burpees (to make up the missed day) and 32 for the current day. That adds up fast! Missing days in the beginning is no big deal but missing a day at day 80 would suck. So plan it out and challenge yourself to complete it. It’s only 5050 Burpees in 100 days. (from here)

So I just did one, including a pushup but on my knees. :) 2 tomorrow!

Wokout 1

So I have decided I need somewhere to record my exercise efforts, times, calories, rounds etc.  I am a regular exerciser and consider myself quite fit but need to step it up so why not keep myself honest and record it all in a blog for the world to potentially see?

Decided to start the ZWOW exercises today. Have been inspired by these exercise videos for a while but haven't had the guts to give them a crack.  There's no time like the present right? Every week Zuzana does bodyweight exercises which seem really tough!

Today I did ZWOD #1 which is:
  • dive bombers x 10
  • burpees x 5
  • squat leg lift x 20/leg
  • burpees x 5
  • side plans lift x 10/side
  • burpees x 5
  • pistol squat x 10/leg
  • burpees x 5
3 rounds as fast as possible.

As I have no upper body or core or for that matter leg (!!) strength the dive bombers were done on my knees, the side plank lifts on my elbows and I did single leg squats.

However I did complete the workout in 23:18 and burned 207 calories.  Not bad for someone recovering from gastro.
